About us

Rzeszowskie Piwnice is an interactive cultural institution operating within the structures of Estrada Rzeszowska- the local government cultural institution of the city of Rzeszów.

The creation of Rzeszowskie Piwnice is the result of implementation of the project ‘Rzeszowskie Piwnice- an interactive cultual institution’ under Measure 8.1 Protection of cultural heritage and development of cultural resources of the Infractructure and Environment Operational Program for 2014-2020.  The subject of the project was the purchase of the equipment and fittings, which allowed to create the new version of the current Trasa Podziemna as an interactive cultural institution, combining historical aspects with modern techniques and methods of presenting the multi-threaded history of Rzeszów in a wider perspcetive than before. The project implementation allow for introduction of a modern cultural and educational offer in Rzeszowskie Piwnice. It will be the new offer, both in terms of quantity and quality.

The idea of the institution’s operation assumes a combination and interpretation of perspectives- historical and contemporary, as well as local and super-regional. It is focused on the development of contemporary art in Rzeszów- the capital of the Podkarpackie Voivodeship, as well as its wide presentation, using the cultural and historical heritage of Rzeszów for the development of cultural competences and cultural education of the society.

The cultural offer of Rzeszowskie Piwnice ia addressed to a wide audience. At the heart of the concept is connection, synergy and multithreading in all aspects: generational, cultural and related to cultural offer.

The Rzeszów Cellars are also modern, multimedia tourist route running beneath the city’s Market Square. It combines the history of Rzeszów with a modern form of storytelling – through films, sounds, lighting, and interactive stations. You’ll learn about important historical events, meet the city’s former owners, hear all about legends and stories – all in a unique underground setting.

The initiative is in line with the latest trends in museology-consisting in an interdyscyplinary way of presenting collections. It is also worth emphasising that the concept of Rzeszowskie Piwnice significantly exceeds the multimedia solutions used in Poland so far, through unconventional and innovative approach to the story of art, tradition and the history of the city and the region
